You’ll get a band score for the whole exam and for each of the four sections: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Let’s dive in and learn about how you can check your IELTS results in different ways.

IELTS results | Getting results from the test center
The alternative way to get your IELTS result is to go to the exam center.
Here is what you need to do to check your IELTS results at the center-
- Candidates must contact the IELTS test facility where they took the exam.
- They must produce the identity papers they used to register for the IELTS exam.
- They will also have to mention the candidate number that has been assigned to them.
- Candidates who have arranged to pick up their results in person at the exam center will not be able to seek them through mail or SMS.
How to request re-marking?
If you feel there’s a need to re-check/re-mark your test results, you have the option to apply for re-marking the test, which is known as Enquiry on Results (EOR). You will contact the test center where you took the exam for the same, and you can choose the sections that you want to be re-marked.
You can request re-marking within 6 weeks after the test date, and senior examiners will re-mark the papers. The results of your EOR will be available in 2-21 days. You will need to pay a fee for requesting for re-marking, which will be refunded if your band score change.
IELTS results | How are scores calculated?
The IELTS result is calculated using the average of all IELTS components, such as Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The rounded score of the average individual scores is the total band score provided in the IELTS result. As seen in the samples below, the average is rounded.
Listening | Reading | Writing | Speaking | Sum/ 4 = Average | Band score rounded |
6.5 | 6.5 | 5.0 | 7.0 | 25/ 4 = 6.25 | 6.5 |
4.0 | 3.5 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 15.5/ 4 = 3.875 | 4.0 |
6.5 | 6.5 | 5.5 | 6.0 | 24.5/ 4 = 6.125 | 6.0 |
Note
- The average of a candidate’s four talents is rounded to the next half band if it ends in .25.
- If a candidate’s average is less than .75, it is rounded to the next whole band.
